The task of our bureau is to bring together the findings from different sciences and thus generate new knowledge that can help us better understand the crises and complexity of our modern world and find solutions on how to deal with them.
If we want to understand what the world is made of and what laws it holds for us, physics is the central science. However, as I discovered, fundamental questions of physics are still unresolved. For example, the mechanisms for the slowing down of time during acceleration and movement (= time dilation, which plays a major role in GPS) and for the curvature of space (which is essential for the phenomenon of “black holes”) are still unknown. The tripartite division of time into past, present and future, which is an elementary experience for our lives, also does not exist in the world of physical formulas. And the big question of how the theory of relativity and quantum mechanics fit together, which - although both have repeatedly proven to be correct - are very contradictory in their statements, has not yet been resolved.
This search for the laws of nature had always fascinated me. Where does space bend if not into space? How can time slow down? How does nature do that? Is the secret of space and time hidden here? Is there a flowing “now”? Is this perhaps even the cause of the dynamics of our world? How does it all fit together? Further questions arose. Why do structures arise everywhere against the 2nd law of thermodynamics (time arrow of evolution)? And what about the mysterious dark energy that is expanding the universe (cosmological arrow of time)?
After I began in 2019 to review and expand on my findings from the years 2005 to 2010 - see my book “Einstein's Errors” - it soon became clear that it only takes a single change to the previous physical world view to obtain a completely new understanding of space and time: I replaced the spacetime continuum established in physics with a scalar field of quanta of action. I now call this new theory of space and time matrix theory.
After completing this work in 2020, I have been devoting more time to basic research in physics again since around the beginning of 2023, inspired by the questions of quantum gravity. I was able to present the latest results to quantum physicists in August 2023 in a lecture at the “Symmetries in Science” congress. While preparing and, above all, following up the lecture, I came across the surprising discovery that the origin of Einstein's general theory of relativity is identical to the origin of quantum physics, namely Planck's quantum of action. This may be the first successful step towards a theory of quantum gravity in which the theory of relativity and quantum physics can be combined.
Matrix theory, which replaces the spacetime continuum with a scalar field of quantum effects - that's all it is - now not only has an explanation of how space and time are curved or dilated, but it also automatically leads to numerous other proposed solutions to central problems in physics - such as the first (!) introduction of past, present and future into physics and proposals for the composition of the Higgs field. At the same time, close connections between the general theory of relativity and quantum physics become apparent and solutions as to why structures arise everywhere against the nature of entropy are also revealed. So is our universe not made up of space and time, but of effects?
This conclusion not only leads to a new idea about dark energy, but also to the conclusion that our universe is not a closed system at all.
To follow the thoughts that lead to the matrix theory, two texts are available, one in English, which served as the basis for the lecture in August 2023, and a text in German, which reflects my latest work on a theory of quantum gravity and is largely identical to the content of the book "Quantum Gravity - The Planck Quantum as the Origin of General Relativity", which was published in November 2024. Another text deals with the consequences that matrix theory provides as an explanation for the phenomenon of dark energy.
